Envoys pledge more support to Tanzania


SEVERAL heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Tanzania have pledged to support the development of various sectors in the country in their talks with President John Magufuli and the Prime Minister, Mr Kassim Majaliwa, in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

HOME Affairs Minister Charles Kitwanga has ordered the transfer of all immigration officials at both Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) and Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) to other workstations in the country.

In a major reshuffle in the history of the Tanzania Immigration Services, the minister has also ordered that also officials working in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) Department be axed from the two major airports and be deployed to other duty stations.

A Swedish doctor has been sentenced to 10 years in jail after being found guilty of kidnapping a woman and keeping her in a bunker for six days.
Martin Peter Trenneborg had admitted kidnapping her but denied and was acquitted of rape.
He had planned to hold her captive as a girlfriend in the purpose-built bunker for years.
The 38-year-old abducted his victim after meeting her for a date in Stockholm last September.
He has been dubbed the "Swedish Fritzl", after the case of Austrian Josef Fritzl, who kept his daughter locked up in a cellar for 24 years.
